Todd plans Te Kiri-2 well in onshore west Taranaki permit

13 July 2006 - Todd Energy plans to drill Te Kiri-2 onshore well into Moki and Kapuni sands west of Mt Taranaki.

Todd Energy is planning to drill an onshore well Te Kiri-2 in its PEP 38749 permit west of Mt Taranaki.

Exploration Manager for Todd Energy Ken Hoolihan said that a large structure had been identified with objectives in the Moki Formation and Kapuni Group sands.

He said the well is estimated to spud in September using the Parker 246 rig. The well site is located over 10 km north of the coastal town of Opunake, inland from the Maui gas field's onshore production station at Oaonui.

Todd last year acquired a 90 sq km 3D seismic survey over the area.

The well follows up the Te Kiri-1 well drilled by Petrocorp in 1986, drilled to a depth of 4700 m. Interpretation work done recently by Todd Energy shows that the earlier well had been drilled outside the closure, Mr Hoolihan said.

The Te Kiri-2 well would be 2 km to the south-west and up dip of the earlier well and would drill to about 4000 m targeting both the Moki and Kapuni sands.
