Kahu-1 well plugged and abandoned

21 July 2010 - Tui oil field operator AWE Ltd reports that Kahu-1 well in its mining permit area offshore Taranaki, was being plugged and abandoned.

Sources: AWE and Lindsay Clark

No significant hydrocarbons were detected in the target reservoir features within the well, AWE said.

Wireline logs were acquired after reaching a total measured depth of 3835 metres.

Kahu-1, located approximately 3 kms east of the producing Tui oil field, tested a large incised valley feature within the Kapuni Group sands.

At the conclusion of operations at Kahu, the Kan Tan IV drilling rig will be relocated to PMP 38524 to drill the Tuatara-1 exploration well.
