Solid Energy export coal prices up 50% to US$200/t; Spring Creek output likely to rise to 600,000/t this year
- 10 May 2010 - Solid Energy has negotiated a 50 per cent rise in export coking coal prices to around US$200 a tonne (about NZ$274 a tonne) in line with recent international coal price trends.

AWE confirms drilling of Tuatara-1 well off South Island

- 7 May 2010 - The Kupe gas and oil field in its first full three months of operation to March 31 produced 4.47 petajoules of sales though it was not until 22 March that Kupe completed its extensive commissioning programme.

Newmont begins Martha east cutback; proposes 200,000 oz Trio mine
- 30 April 2010 - Newmont Waihi Gold is going ahead with the mining of the eastern wall cutback of the Martha open pit mine and is also proposing a 200,000 oz underground Trio mine accessed from the present Favona mine.

- 30 April 2010 - Minister of Energy and Resources Gerry Brownlee and Minister of Conservation Kate Wilkinson have announced an extension to the public submission period on the government’s proposals outlined on March 22 in the discussion paper Maximising our Mineral Potential: Stocktake of Schedule 4 of the Crown Minerals Act and beyond.

Kea discovers oil-bearing sands at Wingrove-2
- 28 April 2010 - Start-up petroleum explorer Kea Petroleum has discovered oil-bearing sandstones and another deeper zone with “very high levels” of hydrocarbon gasses indicating oil in its first well Wingrove-2 in PEP 51153, onshore Taranaki.
