New Zealand petroleum production
The production of oil (condensate/naphtha) decreased during 2006 due in part to depleting Maui oil reserves and production. Net gas production in 2006 increased by 2.6%, this is due primarily to production from the new Pohokura field.
Oil production is set to increase significantly in 2007-2008 as new developments come on stream, such as; Tui, Maari, and Kupe. Activity in the exploration sector continues to be high and is expected to remain so as the award of permits from blocks offers such as offshore Northland, offshore East Coast and the recent Great South Basin.
