Focus on resolving outstanding minerals permit applications

New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals is working to resolve almost 150 outstanding minerals permit applications by the end of the financial year, enabling valuable mining activity and signalling to the sector that New Zealand is open for business.

Minerals permitting improvement programme

We are implementing an ongoing improvements programme for our minerals permitting systems and processes to ensure we are an effective, consistent, and timely regulator.

Annual summary reports are now overdue

Annual summary reports (ASRs) were due on 2 April 2024.

As of 8 April 2024 we have received 715 of the 848 ASRs due. 82% of these were submitted through the online permitting system (OPS). Thank you for filing your reports online and on time.

New specific royalty rates

To maintain the value of the return to the Crown from the extraction of Crown owned minerals, royalty rates listed in the Minerals Programme for Minerals (excluding Petroleum) 2008 have been increased.
